uncleJohnny: thanks for the link. I too have been a longtime user of AudaCity, and have found in useful over and over again. Granted, it's not going to do the sort of things that the expensive commercial products do, but for freeware, it ranks high. One thing that i have not been able to do with AudaCity, and which i would like to (every now and again, i'll transfer one of my analog tapes to digital), is that i'd like to be able to correct drop outs in either the right or left channel by transposing/copying the 'good' channel into the dropped out channel. Does this make sense? By any chance have you encountered the same, and found a work-a-round solution?

yeah actually it makes perfect sence
one of the beautys of audacity it that you can split the track and edit to no end
split the track, copy the good side and reassign the right and left channel and remix.
I know the program has ways to edit on a more advanced level but I always end up doing it manually. Ive been using it for a while but think ive just scratched the surface of what it can do.
Now heres a question for you.
I havent figured out how to use it for on the fly dubbing.
Say you have a hot percussion track and want to add a bass lick to the mix.
Here I have two machines set up and pingpong the jam back and forth which works but there has got to be a better way.
I know theres a way to do it but I havent figured it out yet.
guess I need a little more time on my hands to figure it out!!

Definitely stumped me. In fact, you're def. using it more advanced than i. And it's been awhile since i've used it for editing purposes, and more recently using it to convert my .wav files to .mp3 (though i did convert a Robert Hunter show recently from tape to digitial using audacity). However, if i happen to 'discover' any new and cool uses of the software, i'll be sure to pass them your way. Cheers.

don't think that you are going to accomplish your goal without at least some collateral damage...even if there are no other instruments playing in those exact frequencies, you are going to cancel out the frequencies of the harmonic overtones created by those other instruments, what some people refer to as "ambience"...but i can certainly understand this to be a justified compromise

seem to recall a bootleg vinyl recording called "Hot as Hell" (8/13/75) in which the Sugaree is completely decimated by Donna, only to find years later the "One From The Vault" release featuring the same Sugaree with Donna conspicuous in her absence???

maybe Rhino will see it fit to release special versions of the multi-track material "No Donna"

Try searching under " deadheads who think they're cool but actually have bad taste" or "tired cliches by alleged fans of the Grateful Dead", and you may find some useful commentary about removing Donna from your discs.

Donna is a much a part of the history of this band as any of them, and while at times irritating, I wouldn't want to change a thing about any of the recordings I have with and without Donna.

without donna there would be no show

dont know why you would want to do that.
you plan on using it for a kareoke track?

well I cant fault you for that!
load one for me and make it quick
but seriously
audacity is the only program ive had much luck with for major eq adjustments
sometimes it takes a few trys
i know theres other programs out there but they get kinda spendy
best of luck with the donna
I guess Im going deaf cause I just love to hear her scream!!!!
